About the event
In this special new edition of our walking tours, you’ll be guided on a historic journey from Los Angeles’ Old Plaza to Chinatown—tracing the very ground where the city first took shape. Long before Los Angeles became synonymous with film studios and freeways, this district served as its cultural and civic center, shaped by Indigenous, Spanish, Mexican, Chinese, and immigrant communities whose influences continue to define the city today.
Led by expert guides and accomplished storytellers, this experience follows the evolution of the Old Plaza from its founding in the late 18th century as a Spanish colonial settlement, through its transformation into a thriving Mexican marketplace, and later into a dynamic hub of migration, commerce, and cultural exchange. From the historic core of the plaza to the preserved corridor of Olvera Street and into the layered streets of Chinatown, the tour reveals how these interconnected spaces tell a larger story…
