In this new edition of our walking tours, you'll be guided on in-depth exploration of Hollywoodland, the legendary hillside development that helped shape Los Angeles long before Hollywood became a global brand. Conceived as both a real-estate venture and a cultural experiment, Hollywoodland was where ambition, spectacle, innovation, and mythmaking converged - setting the stage for the modern entertainment capital.
Led by expert guides and accomplished storytellers, this inaugural tour traces the rise of the film industry through overlooked landmarks, historic sites, and hidden pathways, revealing how Hollywoodland shaped not only Hollywood’s identity, but the physical and cultural landscape of Los Angeles itself.

This ticket includes access to a guided group tour for one (1) person, alongside up to fifteen (15) other guests, led by LA Explained’s resident historians. On this tour, you will walk approximately 2.5 miles while visiting 3–5 historic sites tucked into the hills of Whitley Heights and Hollywood Heights, where expert guides use oral history and place-based storytelling to reveal hidden stories from LA’s cinematic past.

Private Picnic Tour (5)
This ticket includes exclusive access to a private guided walking tour for up to five (5) people, led by LA Explained’s resident historians, and includes curated refreshments such as charcuterie, sparkling wine, light snacks, and water.
